Topic:   scomm32 control not found: Windows 10/ Access 2010

By: theCasePosted on: Dec 26 2017 at 02:27:47 AM
I've installed the scomm32 control and cannot find it in Access 2010. I've tried the "InCode" and "OnForm" example and neither works. The "inCode" sample gives me a "there is no object in this control" when I go to design view, ( i.e. control on the form is blank/empty.

I've tried registering the scommx.ocx file using Regsvr32 in SysWow64 to no avail.

I'm guessing there is some registration problem, but so far it's been a head-scratcher for me. My plan is to read NMEA txt files from a USB GPS unit...

Any thoughts appreciated....

Are you using the 64bit version of MSOffice?

I'm using the 64 bit version of MSOffice 2010. Thank you for your time to reply to my question. It looks like it's a great product and would have worked great for me. Thanks again!

I also couldn't get the samples to operate in Access, was coming up with an error "Missing or broken reference to OCX". Had 64-bit Windows with 32-bit Office. The OCX (V9) was showing in the References (in VBE Editor), but I did notice an entry there which stated "Missing - SCOMM V7". After removing this reference, problem disappeared.

to the post above about "Missing or broken reference to OCX".

What you're saying is that that error was not related to v9 at all.

The error was being thrown because the project was still (also) looking for v7 because you still had a reference to that version in your project. Once you removed that reference the error went away ?
