Topic:   Excel VBA crashes with Scomm32x

By: JordePosted on: Oct 3 2017 at 03:44:54 AM
Hi
I use Scomm32 driver to communicate between electronic boards and EXCEL VBA. The code seems to work perfectly, but closing Excel is a problem.
Excel crashes when Excel is closed (not when Serial Port is closed)
I run Windows 10 latest version.
I use Office 365 v.1709 uppdated with an office insider version.
I have tried SComm32 v8 as well as SComm32 v9, but the same problem occours.
How can I solve the problem?

You need to close the serial port before closing excel.

I have closed the Serial port With this cammand:
SComm2.PortOpen = False
but still Excel crashes when closing Excel.

Another test:
I activated Scomm32 in an emty Excel document. I open the document og close Excel it immediately without doing anything - and Excel is crashing. What could be the problem?

Do you mean that you just open and close the excel document and it crashes. I mean without even opening the serial port?

Yes, that is rigt.
Seems like Excel2016 (Microsoft Office 365) do not like SComm32. Testing SComm32 with Excel2010 works fine. How can I got around this problem?

Have you got 64bit version of office installed?

No, I have 32bit version of Office installed. But I run Windows 10 (64 bit).

The excel sheet with the ocx that doesn't open the port but crashes when you close the sheet. Can you put that sheet into a zip and email it to us.

Why are you running insider version on your development machine? What Microsoft says about the Insider Versions.

By switching to Insider Preview builds of Windows 10, you’ll get the latest changes and features before other Windows users. However, you’ll also get new bugs.

Overall, we (microsoft) don’t recommend switching to Windows 10’s Insider Previews on your main PC, or any PC you depend on actual stability from. if you’re curious to get a glimpse of the future and provide feedback, we recommend running the Insider Previews in a virtual machine or on a secondary PC.

What is it with you insiders? Don't you guys realise that the insider program is just another word for "Beta Testers". OK, It's not quite as dodgy as Beta but it's still not 100% release ready.

OK. That 'Insider' thing refers to Windows 10. But I guess it also applies to Office Insider versions as we.

Am also having same problem...When I use Excel2016 (32Bit) when I close port and then the file, Excel Crashes....When I use the same file with Excel2010(32Bit) it just works fine...Do we have upgraded version of SComm32 compatible with Excel2016(32 Bit)??
